Elio Suffers! Box Office Results – June 22-24, 2025

This weekend at the box office was not all positive news. How To Train Your Dragon stayed strong, but Pixar’s newest animated adventure seemed to flop hard. Here are your weekend box office results.

1. How to Train Your Dragon took the top spot in its second week in theaters. The movie took in 37 million dollars and now has a worldwide total of about 358 million dollars. It will definitely be the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

2. 28 Years Later took in 30 million dollars in its first weekend. The long-awaited sequel has been doing well with critics and audiences, with many praising the story and effects.

3. Elio made 21 million dollars in its debut weekend. This is the lowest opening for any Pixar movie ever. The budget for Elio seems to be around 150 million dollars, but other reports have the budget close to 300 million dollars. We don’t know which one is the truth, but either way, the movie only made about 38 million dollars worldwide. If it doesn’t have legs going forward, this movie could be in deep trouble. There didn’t seem to be much marketing, and many audiences don’t quite know what the movie is.

4. Lilo and Stitch made another 9.7 million dollars. The movie has already made 910 million dollars worldwide. Only time will tell if this could be the first movie this year to make a billion dollars.

5. Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning took in 6.5 million dollars. The movie has done well but the budget was way too high. There is a chance the movie will do better on streaming.

Join us next week to see how the box office turns out.
