12 Aries Anime Characters

Spring has officially sprung! As the frosts of winter begin to thaw, it’s time to stop and smell the flowers, splash around in puddles left by gentle April rain, organize an Easter egg hunt… and celebrate Aries season! Aries is the zodiac sign of people born between March 21 and April 19. Out of all the signs, Aries seem the most in tune with their element: it’s a fire sign, and Aries are known for their fiery personalities. Your typical Aries is hot-headed and competitive, which can sometimes make them short-tempered and belligerent, but on the flip side, they can also be high energy and tons of fun. Even the meekest of Aries will get heated when it comes to the things they’re passionate about. Here are 12 Aries anime characters!

Ayato Sakamaki (Diabolik Lovers) – March 22

Being competitive isn’t always a bad trait, because competition can motivate a person to do their best. It’s when that person wholeheartedly believes that they are the best and that everyone else is inferior to them that there starts to be a problem. Ayato is a total narcissist, and, for lack of a better word, a jerk. He looks down on and belittles everyone around him, making him the absolute worst kind of Aries that gives the sign a bad name.

Erina Nakiri (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma) – March 23

Aries are usually competitive because they love the thrill of competition and the opportunity to prove themselves. Erina, however, doesn’t get herself worked up like that: she knows she’s the best chef in the game. After all, she possesses the God’s Tongue, which is the most acute and critical sense of taste in the world. However, her inner competitive spirit is eventually ignited when her position as the best chef in her age group is challenged by a boy named Yukihira Soma. Her true Aries nature was always in there somewhere; she just buried it under poise.

Kaoru Sakurayashiki (SK8 The Infinity) – March 27

Kaoru may seem calm and collected, but underneath that sophisticated surface he is one of the greatest competitors in a cutthroat skateboarding race called S. Using the moniker “Cherry Blossom,” he gracefully dominates the competition using wit, skill, and technology. Whether it be skateboarding or calligraphy, Cherry puts his whole heart into his passions.

Oubi Akitaru (Fire Force) – March 27

It’s only natural that I’d include a character from Fire Force in a list about such a prominent fire sign. What better choice is there than the captain of a Special Fire Force? Well, that’s the thing… Oubi is actually the only Fire Soldier in his squad that doesn’t have an Ignition Ability, or fire powers. It makes total sense for an Aries to be in charge of a group of people who are technically more powerful than they are. What Oubi lacks in supernatural ability, he makes up for with both physical and mental strength. He puts that Aries determination to good use!

Eren Jaeger (Attack On Titan) – March 30

There are quite a few Aries characters in Attack On Titan, but Eren is just such an Aries that I felt like he needed to be the one I put on this list. Although he goes through some intense character development throughout the series, he starts out as a little ball of rage with the lofty goal of wiping out all the Titans. He is headstrong, stubborn, and often impulsive, and never loses sight of his goal.

Akane Tsunemori (Psycho-Pass) – April 1

Despite the stereotype, not all Aries are hotheads with short tempers. Akane is a level-headed and intelligent woman with a distinct set of ideals. She sticks to what she believes is right, even if those around her disagree. In a career field where split-second decisions can mean life or death, it’s a good thing that Akane doesn’t have the typical rashness of an Aries.

Yasutomo Arakita (Yowamushi Pedal) – April 2

Okay, now back to stereotypical Aries. A former delinquent, Arakita has a bad attitude and a foul mouth to match it. Fortunately, instead of continuing down the road toward a life of crime, he redirected his rage and channeled all that energy into bicycle racing. He is a competitive cyclist with the skill to back it up, although his tendency to lash out at others both physically and verbally kept him from being allowed to race for a long time.

Sakura Minamoto (Zombieland Saga) – April 2

Remember how I said that even quieter Aries are intensely passionate about the things they love? Well, Sakura is so passionate about her dream of becoming an idol, that she continued pursuing it even after she died. This optimistic young girl is actually a zombie. The passion and courage of an Aries often make them great leaders, and Sakura is the leader of an all-zombie idol unit. She puts her whole heart into keeping the group together and making sure their performances are the best they can be—even though her heart is no longer beating.

Kurapika (Hunter x Hunter) – April 4

Much like fellow Eren Jaeger, Kurapika’s sole pursuit in life is seeking revenge. He may not seem intimidating at first glance, with his small stature and feminine features that often get him mistaken for a woman; but if you mess with him, you’re in for a world of hurt. Let’s just say his kill count is more than 0. Although Kurapika usually keeps a calm composure on the outside, he’s burning with rage on the inside (and I don’t blame him, considering his whole family was slaughtered just so people could make money off of their pretty red eyes).

Legoshi (Beasters) – April 9

When I found out Legoshi was an Aries, my first thought was, “No way!” After all, he is the total opposite of the usually rash, aggressive Aries: he is shy and gentle. In fact, he actively works towards not displaying the traits that are often used to describe Aries. However, as we saw with characters like Akane Tsunemori, a person doesn’t have to be a total livewire to be a “true” Aries. His firm resolve to overcome his nature and treat everyone with kindness despite his carnivorous nature is proof that he is strong-willed. Compassion is just one type of passion.

Teruki Hanazawa (Mob Psycho 100) – April 13

Hanazawa is a force to be reckoned with, and he knows it. So much so that when we first meet him, he’s totally full of himself. Once he finds out that there are others with powers like him, though, he becomes a little more humble. But that doesn’t mean he loses his fighting spirit or confidence; he’s just less obnoxiously arrogant, and able to recognize his rivals as his friends.

Rei Hino (Sailor Moon) – April 17

This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one character who has fire powers. Sailor Mars fully embodies the Aries sign in more ways than literally wielding fire: she has the exact stubborn, aggressive, hot-headed personality that one would expect from an Aries. The writers of Sailor Moon knew what they were doing by giving her a birthday that made her a fire sign!
