Actress Daveigh Chase passed away on Tuesday, June 16th shortly after being diagnosed with meningitis and blood infections. Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, started a GoFundMe “to give her [a] sense of home and peace in her final days,” but she passed before the fundraiser could even reach 50% of its goal. She would have turned 36 next month.

As a child in 2001 and 2002, Chase provided the voices for not just one, but two protagonists of extremely beloved animated films: Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away and Lilo Pelekai in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch (including the television series and two of the three sequel films). During those same years when she warmed the hearts of millions of children and their families, she also terrified horror movie enjoyers with her roles as Samara Morgan (AKA the creepy girl that crawls out of the TV) in The Ring and Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko. She would later reprise the latter role in the sequel film S. Darko, in which Samantha played a leading rather than supporting role. Between 2006 and 2011, she played Rhonda Volmer in the HBO drama series Big Love. Her last appearances on screen were in 2016 when she played leading roles in thriller movies Jack Goes Home and American Romance.
We at Fandom Spotlite would like to express our condolences to Chase’s family, friends, and fans.
