This past weekend at the box office, dinosaurs made a lot of money. We possibly could be seeing a declining franchise, though. F1 and How to Train Your Dragon continue to do well while M3GAN is nowhere to be found.
1. Jurassic World: Rebirth came in first place this weekend. The movie took in 91.5 million dollars over the 3-day weekend. Globally, the movie has dominated with a worldwide total of 318 million dollars so far. This is a fantastic number, but this movie does have the lowest domestic opening weekend out of the Jurassic World movies. The last 3 movies have all reached 1 billion dollars despite the reviews, showing that people just love dinosaurs. It does seem like it’s going to be up to the international box office, though, to push this new movie to a billion dollars, especially with Superman coming out next week.
2. F1: The Movie made 26 million dollars in its second week. The movie worldwide has made back its budget. The movie will probably do even better once it hits streaming.
3. How to Train Your Dragon made 11 million dollars. The movie has surpassed expectations and now is at over 500 million dollars worldwide.
4. Elio made another 5.7 million dollars. The movie, unfortunately, still hasn’t reached 100 million worldwide. This could be due to a lack of marketing and understanding of what the movie is.
5. 28 Years Later took in 4.6 million dollars. The next installment, funny enough, comes out 28 weeks from now. With a different director, it will be interesting to see how it does.
In other movie news, M3GAN 2.0 completely dropped out of the top 5. The movie was just not what audiences cared to see. Join us next week to see how the box office turns out. Superman comes out next week, and it should be very exciting.
