5 Webtoon Adaptations To Look Out For in 2022

Webtoons continue to increase in popularity as they trend worldwide. With new stories being released weekly it’s no surprise there are more adaptations being released. With webtoon’s such as Lore Olympus snagging their Netflix adaptation deal, we can look forward to more webtoon adaptations in 2022. Here is a new roundup of some webtoons to check out before their adaptation hits the screen next year.

Brave Citizen

Brave Citizen is an upcoming movie is based on a webcomic called Yongamhan Shimin, by Kim Jung-Hyun & directed by Park Jin-Pyo known for the melodrama film You Are My Sunshine. Shin Hye-Sun will play the main character So Shi-Min who works as a contract teacher and wants to become a full-time teacher. Lee Jun-Young (from music group U-KISS) will play Han Soo-Gang who is a troubled student at the high school and gets into a confrontation with So Shi-Min. The drama is currently scheduled to begin filming in December and no release date has been set as of yet.

The Gold Spoon

This webtoon asks the question: “Would you trade your family for a life of riches?” When Seungcheon, the main character, gets his hands on a magical spoon that allows him to switch lives with his rich best friend it seems like a dream come true. But what are the consequences? The lead character will be played by BTOB’s Yook Sung-Jae who also recently starred in the webtoon TV adaptation of Mystic Pop-UpBar. Gold Spoon will first air sometime during the second half of 2022 on the small screen.

All of Us Are Dead

Coming to Netflix in January 2022, this webtoon adaptation will appeal to fans of shows like The Walking Dead and movies such as Alive. Based on the webtoon Jigeum Woori Hakkyoneun by Joo Dong-Geun, this show follows a group of high school students who are trapped at their school during a zombie virus outbreak. The students desperately try to avoid becoming zombies and escape from their school. The cast includes a number of actors from notable K-Dramas including Zo Zee-An, Yoo In-Soo, Cho Yi-Hyun, Yoon Chan-Young, and more.

Imadoki no Wakai Mon wa

Based on the webcomic of the same name, Imadoki no Wakai Mon wa by Kohei Yoshitani is about the story of an overworked office employee named Mugita. The webtoon follows Mugita connecting with her boss Hajime Ishizawa,  who is the intimidating section chief for the sales department at a trading company. This work-themed TV drama will star Takashi Sorimach, who recently acted in Hot Gimmick: Girl Meets Boy (a manga film adaptation) as Hajime Ishizawa. Imadoki no Wakai Mon wa first airs spring, 2022 in Japan.

Superior Day

Looking for an intense thriller? Jin Goo, Ha Do-Kwon, and Lee Won-Geun have been cast in the upcoming OCN drama series Superior Day, based on webcomic Uwolhan Halu by Team Getname. Jin Goo will act as lead character Lee Ho-Cheol whose daughter is kidnapped and he receives a text message to kill someone that lives next door to him.  Ha Do-Kwon will play Bae Tae-Jin who is a hired killer and his target is a serial killer. Lee Won-Geun will play Kwon Shi-Woo the person that lives next door to Lee Ho-Cheol and he is a serial killer. Superior Day will first air sometime in the first half of 2022 in South Korea.
